Reviving a Flash-Era Browser Game with Cocos Creator

Summary
Unlight is a Taiwan-based browser game that originally ran on Adobe Flash, a technology old browsers were dropping support for. The project's main goal was migrating the legacy Flash client over to a modern, browser-friendly engine, rewritten from the ground up in Cocos Creator with TypeScript. I was mainly responsible for setting up in-game characters and environments from assets provided by the art team, and for integrating the real-time WebSocket layer on the front end — built in Go by the backend team in Taiwan. This was the last project I worked on during my time at Game Factory.
What I Worked On
- Migrated the legacy Adobe Flash / ActionScript game client to Cocos Creator with TypeScript for modern browser compatibility.
- Set up in-game characters and environments using assets provided by the art team.
- Integrated real-time WebSocket communication on the front end, connecting to a Go-based backend built by the team in Taiwan.
- Worked cross-border with a Taiwan-based backend team to ship real-time gameplay features.
